Above the Clouds

Here are five facts about mental health and substance abuse according to the Arizona Department of Health Services:

High Prevalence: In Arizona, mental health disorders are prevalent, with a significant portion of the population experiencing some form of mental illness. Substance abuse often co-occurs with mental health disorders, exacerbating the challenges faced by individuals.

Access to Care: Arizona has various programs aimed at improving access to mental health and substance abuse treatment, particularly through Medicaid and other state-funded services. However, there are still barriers to accessing timely care, especially in rural areas.

Crisis Services: Arizona provides 24/7 crisis services for individuals facing mental health emergencies. The state has established crisis hotlines and mobile crisis units to assist those in immediate need of mental health or substance use intervention.

Integrated Care: The state emphasizes the integration of behavioral health services with physical health care. This approach aims to provide more comprehensive treatment for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.

Youth Mental Health: Arizona recognizes the growing need for mental health services among young people. Programs are in place to address early intervention and prevention for youth, aiming to reduce the long-term impact of mental illness and substance abuse (AZDHS) (Arizona Department of Economic Security).
